The Cardinals or Cardinalidae are a family of seven species of birds. The Northern Cardinal is the only member of this family found in the wild in the northern hemisphere. The cardinal is one of only two North American conical beak birds that have crests--the other is the pyrrhuloxia, whose US range is limited to the Southwest, including West Texas.
