Pelicans are water birds known for their large throat pouch. They often use the throat pouch as a net to catch their fish dinner; they then drain the pouch and swallow their prey. During medieval times, pelican mothers were thought to use their own blood for feeding or resurrecting their young. As a result, the pelican has become a symbol of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service. Today in America, pelicans have come to remind people of vacations. Remember your vacation when you hang one of our pelican ornaments on your tree!
